I really enjoyed doing these drawings of the sewing machine.
I think what I'm going to today is work on Victorian era fashions, playing with the key fashion principles of the times, we are still in week 1 of my History of 20th Century Fashion Arts. I definitely want to incorporate what I'm learning in there into my sketchbooks. Eventually I want these sketchbooks to include more figures. Using the models/concepts from the fashion class is a good way to transition into drawing strangers in public. I also need to get out of the house. I've drawing out a few times this week but I need to go to the museum.

I still haven't ordered all the sketchbooks. My order is all organized, but I'm waiting for my student loan check (went in the mail yesterday) to come and clear before I submit it. Then I will have a sketchbook completely dedicated to fashion illustration through the years.  But I'm not going to put off those endeavors until then. I think I'll look for late 19th c. paintings to draw from at the VMFA to make that connection between fine art and fashion arts.

day 5 (sept 8)

I tried the black and white with pencils a few times, but I wasn't getting the effect I want with those tools. I'm going to try it with a white gel pen and a black sharpie, the graphite wasn't dark enough on the dark papers, and the lighter colors didn't have enough contrast with the white. I'll keep working on it. These are a little bit lame... eb... flow...
